CarDSPMusicPlayer Support Android

Your everyday music player becomes a serious car audio system the moment you get in the car. A music player with a 28-band EQ, tone controls, automatic in-car acoustic correction and loudness normalization. It also supports hi-res output through a USB DAC and FLAC/ALAC files, and runs on car AI boxes and smartphones.

It's digital. So why doesn't it sound good?

Good sound is not just "V-shaped" sound with boosted bass and treble.
It is resolution that lets you hear the mids and highs inside the bass, down to where the bassist is fretting the string.
It is crisp highs where you can pick out every tap of the ride cymbal and hi-hat.

If you can't hear that, is it the amp? The speakers? Do you need new headphones?

Before you buy anything, try this app first.

How the sound processing works →

Hi-res output up to 384 kHz with a USB DAC.

Connect a USB DAC and turn on "USB DAC direct output", and hi-res tracks are sent to the DAC at their original sample rate, bypassing the Android mixer.
Turn on upsampling, and even CD-quality (44.1 kHz) tracks can be output at 352.8 kHz (44.1 kHz family) or 384 kHz (48 kHz family).

* The maximum output sample rate depends on what your DAC and your device support.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The app automatically loads music files stored in your device's internal storage or on an SD card. It supports MP3, AAC/M4A, FLAC, WAV and OGG Vorbis, as well as Apple Lossless (ALAC). Some formats, such as OGG Opus and AMR, may not play on some devices. Copy-protected files (.m4p, old FairPlay DRM) cannot be played.

Songs downloaded from streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and Amazon Music cannot be played, because they are stored as DRM-protected data that only each service's own app can use.

It is used by the following two features. If you use neither, you don't need to grant microphone permission.

In-car correction / microphone calibration: the phone's microphone records a measurement sweep tone, and the app analyzes the frequency response of your car (or of the microphone itself). The recorded sound is only held temporarily in memory for the analysis and is never saved or sent as audio. Only the analysis result (numbers such as the correction curve) remains on your device.

Voice search: voice search with the microphone button in the search field. Speech is recognized by the speech recognition service on your device (such as Google's), and the app receives only the recognized text.

Anywhere, any time — not only in the car. In the Sound tab you can set the 28-band equalizer, the tone controls and the in-car correction curve separately. The button at the top right of the full-screen player lets you quickly adjust just the bass and treble.

Connect your phone to your car's Bluetooth audio and tap "Start correction scan" in the Sound tab. A measurement sweep tone plays through the car speakers, the phone's microphone measures the frequency response inside the car, and a correction curve is created automatically (music stops during the measurement).

You can choose how strongly the correction is applied (Precise, Standard or Mild), and fine-tune it by hand while listening to music with "Adjust correction curve". In some cars it may sound better without correction; in that case you can turn it off with "Disable in-car correction".

Yes (version 1.1.0 or later). Use "Send correction to another device" in the Sound tab to turn a profile measured on your phone into a correction file (.cdsp), and send it via Quick Share, Gmail, Google Drive, etc. On the AI box, choose it with "Import correction file", or open the received file with this app, and it is added as a profile.

Correction files are shared with the iPhone version, so you can also use a correction measured on an iPhone. A correction file contains the profile name, the correction curve, the equalizer values, and the date and device model of the measurement.

Turn on "Loudness normalization" in the Sound tab (on by default), and the app analyzes the loudness of each song and automatically corrects volume differences. Songs that haven't been analyzed yet are analyzed one by one in the background, so it can take a while with a large library. Turn on "Trim silence between songs" to skip silence at the start and end of each song.

For a large library, you can analyze the whole library first with our free Mac app "LoudBatch" and import the exported CSV file to finish the analysis right away.

Yes. You can create new playlists in the app, add and reorder songs, and set a cover image (chosen from your photos or from a song's artwork). You can also import a folder of m3u/m3u8 playlists exported on a Mac or PC.

The song list is read from the index of music files that Android itself builds (the media store). Right after copying files, or after inserting an SD card with many songs, new songs may not appear until Android finishes indexing them. Please wait a while and then restart the app, or restart your device.

The DSP processing (28-band EQ, tone controls and in-car correction) works with every type of connection. The output sample rate depends on the connected device.

With a USB DAC, turn on "USB DAC direct output" in the Sound tab to send audio to the DAC at the song's own sample rate, bypassing the Android mixer. If you choose upsampling (44.1 kHz family / 48 kHz family), the app's high-precision conversion raises the output to the highest rate your DAC supports (up to 384 kHz, or up to 352.8 kHz for the 44.1 kHz family). The full-screen player shows the song's format and the actual output rate.

On some devices, such as OPPO phones, you need to turn on "OTG connection" in the system settings before connecting a USB DAC. Also, you will be asked for permission again each time you reconnect the DAC.

Over Bluetooth, the output sample rate is limited by the Bluetooth standard and by what the receiver supports.
